Maintenance Tools

Crossbow & Bow Maintenance Tools — Because Good Equipment Deserves Better Than Neglect

Most people spend a decent amount of time choosing the right crossbow or bow. They research, compare, read reviews, maybe ask around. Then they shoot it for a season, throw it in the garage, and wonder why things start feeling off the following year. The string looks a bit fuzzy. The trigger feels different. Something's creaking that didn't creak before.

It's almost always maintenance — or the lack of it.

The good news is that keeping a crossbow or bow in proper working condition isn't complicated or time-consuming. You don't need to be a technician. You need the right tools and a basic routine. That's it.

What actually needs attention

The string and cables take the most abuse and get the least attention. Every time you shoot, that string is absorbing an enormous amount of energy and snapping back into position. Waxing it regularly keeps the fibres from drying out and fraying, extends its lifespan significantly, and keeps performance consistent. If your string looks dry or individual fibres are starting to separate, you're already overdue.

Rail lube is the other one people skip until something goes wrong. The rail takes friction on every single shot. Without lubrication that friction builds up, slows your bolt down, and eventually starts wearing the surface itself. A small amount applied every 50 to 100 shots is all it takes to avoid that problem entirely — it takes about thirty seconds and costs almost nothing.

Beyond string and rail care, a proper set of Allen keys covers the majority of everyday adjustments on any crossbow or bow. Loose sight mounts, stock adjustments, scope rings — most of it comes down to the right hex key and two minutes of attention. A serving thread for minor string repairs and a stringer tool for safely stringing and unstringing recurve bows round out a basic maintenance kit that handles almost everything you'll encounter in regular use.

Why it's worth doing properly

A well-maintained bow or crossbow shoots the same on day one as it does two years later. The accuracy holds. The feel stays consistent. You're not second-guessing your equipment mid-session or chasing problems that have been quietly developing for months.

And you're not looking at an avoidable repair bill. A string replacement, a damaged rail, a cam that's worked loose — these are the things that happen when maintenance gets skipped. A tube of wax and ten minutes every few months prevents most of them outright.

Good equipment is an investment. The tools that keep it running are what protect that investment.
